NP Rank:
Palin: National Security Missile Defense Knowledge?
By Abert N. Milliron, Editor, Politisite.com, Iron Mill Interactive Media, Inc
Governor Palin has been touted as an unexperienced Governor with little National Security experience. Alaska provides for a different type of Governor. While she is briefed on the defense of the Alaska pipeline. She gets further briefings on the Strategic Missile Defense System, located near Ft. Greeley Alaska. As other Governors, she does not have a security clearance like a President. She is cleared to get certain Security level information. Senator Obama, by virtual of his cocaine use and his entanglements with William Ayers, a man who bombed the Pentagon, will receive a briefing on national security. The President is the only person that doesn't have to get a security clearance for Top security briefings.
Governor Palin being an Alaska Governor and the Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard receives briefings on national security and the inter workings of the missile system that is deployed in her state. The reason? The missile defense shield is an Alaska National Guard Duty. The rhetoric that is circulating about her lack of experience and National Security experience should be put to rest.
One area of Sarah Palin's background that may help her is Alaska's unique role in our national security and homeland defense. Several folks have have mentioned this but Tom W. was specific and his info jibes with the record.
Alaska is the first line of defense in our missile interceptor defense system. The 49th Missile Defense Battalion of the Alaska National Guard is the unit that protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. It’s on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units.
As governor of Alaska, Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counter terrorism. Her exposure to classified material may rival even Baden's.
She's also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security's counter terrorism plans.
Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the entire country's defense. Given Alaska's proximity to Russia, she may have security clearances we don't even know about.
According to the Washington Post, she first met with McCain in February, but nobody ever found out. This is a woman used to keeping secrets.
She can be entrusted with our national security, because she already is.
I agree with that assessment except for the thought that her access to classified material may rival Biden's. Highly unlikely as Biden's seat on the Foreign Relations committee would expose him to information on a very wide array of topics. But her experience in keeping the homeland safe fits perfectly with her image as the competent American woman. It's not the same as having your finger on the button, but it a heckuva lot closer than Biden or Barry O has ever been.
It will be tremendous fun to watch a couple of complete political tools like the Hope&Change duo attempt to attack a record of substance not words, a record of action not bloviation, a record of kicking ass and taking names against what now.......?

U.S. Northern Command brought the 100th Missile
Defense Brigade (Ground-Based Midcourse Defense) to
operational level for the first time in response to the July
2006 North Korean missile crisis. Previously maintained
in test mode, the brigade, headquartered at Colorado
Springs, Colorado, and its 49th Missile Defense Battalion
(Ground-Based Missile Defense) at Fort Greeley, Alaska,
remained at high alert status for the duration of the crisis.

As of today your story had 283 views, and no comments ! Given the charged nature of the political discussion and the slanderous comments being cast back and forth by supporters of both parties, I am really surprised !!

I thought this was great information-
It should help folks to continue taking a different look at who Palin really is and the responsibility she has had- and the abilities she has.
I find her refreshing along side some women in politics- she can do her job and continue to be a gracious women!
Great forethought has gone into this choice that most all of us have no idea about. That is the America that I grew up with- refreshing.

Please continue to pray for John McCain and Sarah Palin......Sarah has taken so much cruelty, but she knew that going in. We just need to continue praying for endurance, wisdom, strength and peace......
I admire Sarah for her not compromising her integrity.

How in the world can you say she has not compromised her integrity when she herself got someone fired because they wouldn't fire the brother-in-law she didn't like. John McCain and Sarah Palin are just as liberal as any democrat but are hiding behind the Republican ticket. Vote Independent!!

Integrity??? What integrity. How in the world can one claim to be a Christian or attend an Assembly of God Church and claim to have intengrity while they deliberately speread lies and half truths to Americans while on the campaign trail??? Integrity??? Any integrity this woman had was the first thing that got compromised the moment she agreed to be McCain's running mate. From that point forward, she's been nothing more then a good little puppet propped up by the GOP in the hopes that she might be able to help them to regain the political control they have been losing. If Sarah Palin has any ounce of decency or so called integrity...she will look for the most gracious way to back out and fade into the annals of moose hunting history.

CNN journalist Campbell Brown asked while interviewing McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds "Can you tell me one decision that she made as commander in chief of the Alaska National Guard ?" "Just one?"
Bounds couldn't, because Palin has never personally ordered the state guard to do anything.
Instead, here's what he said: "Any decision she has made as the commander of the Alaska National Guard that's deployed overseas is more of a decision than Barack Obama's been making as he's been running for president for the last two years."
Maj. Gen. Craig Campbell , the service commander of the Alaska National Guard and also serves as the commissioner of the State Department of Military and Veterans Affairs said: "The governor has no command authority overseas or anywhere in the United States other than Alaska."
Campbell also said: "When members of the National Guard are federalized, they work for the president." "It's not just overseas. They could be federalized to go to other states or they could even be federalized in the state."
"Occasions in which Palin retains command authority over the 4,200-member Alaska National Guard are whenever the Guard responds to in-state natural disasters and civic emergencies."

Get your facts straight before you show yourself the fool again, "lookatthefacts". Per your statement:
"Bounds couldn't, because Palin has never personally ordered the state guard to do anything."
While she does not have the foreign policy experience, she is still briefed on national security issues and has a higher security clearance than eithe "Socialist" candidate. Per the LA Times (in a typical, right-wing-biased article):
"During Palin's 21 months in office, there has been one declared disaster: widespread flooding in June and July this year. Palin quickly signed a disaster declaration, officials said. The Guard's role was limited to providing two water tanks and 30,000 sandbags to local authorities.
"The Alaska Air National Guard, with 1,946 service members, is involved in an exceptional number of search-and-rescue missions. Since Palin became governor in December 2006, the Air Guard has flown 521 missions, saving 200 lives and assisting with the rescue of 77 more people, said Kalei Brooks, a spokeswoman for the Alaska Department of Military and Veterans Affairs.
"Our rescue squadron is the busiest in the nation," she said."
While not overwhelming, it's still the kind of facts the Democrats like to omit when trying to make a case. If you wish to discuss "facts," make sure you actually use the "facts." It's the folks like you who love to blame Bush for everything that has gone wrong in the US in the last 7+ years, but when you look at the facts related to Bush's record and the record since the election of the Democrat majority in Congress:
George Bush has been in office for 7 1/2 years. The first six the economy was fine.
A little over one year ago:
1) Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2) Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3) the unemployment rate was 4.5%.
4) the DOW JONES hit a record high--14,000 +
5) American's were buying new cars,taking cruises, vacations overseas!...
But American's wanted 'CHANGE'! So, in 2006 they voted in a Democratic Congress and yes--we got 'CHANGE' all right. In the PAST YEAR:
1) Consumer confidence has plummeted;
2) Gasoline is now over $4 a gallon & climbing! (SINCE REVERSED AS A RESULT OF THE ECONOMY AND DEMAND STABILIZATION);
3) Unemployment is up to 5.5% (a 10% increase);
4) Americans have seen their home equity drop by $12 TRILLION
DOLLARS and prices still dropping;
5) 1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
THANKS, DEMS! Just wait till you get both the White House and Congress. Can't wait to see what hole we are trying to pull ourselves out of 2 years from now when there is no system of checks and balances...

Wow... This is the kettle calling the pot black. In retrospect, Republicans are far more wastefully socialists then the Democrats they accuse. As as far as facts go Mr Checkoutthe facts...your list could not be more skewed. The first 6 years of Bush's adnisminstration set the stage for the current economic mess that has been screwing over the middle class of this country. Democrats in Congress did not create or contribute to the current economic messes created by your GOP daddies in office. They simply inhereted the messes created by your daddy Bush and his rubber stamp GOP congress. It will take a very long time to fix the financial crisis that these GOP reptiles have created.
As for Palin....the points mentioned in this blog article have no real bearing on Sarah Palin's personal capabilities as a leader of a nation. It just means that she was the Governor of a state that by default...falls within these specified national defense parameters. Not really much different than being the Governor of a Midwestern state that is loaded with strategic defense nuclear missile silos. I suspect that a lot of secrets are kept by Governors of states that have high levels of national defense significance simply because of the territory that they govern. In Palin's case, she is simply another GOP right wing extremist whose hate filed and warmonger views are paralleled only by her sociopathic GOP mindset that mixes cherry picked parts of religion with jingoistic patriotism. It must be difficult to be a Republican in 2008. To do so, you have to concurrently believe that: You are a God fearing Assembly of God Christian who thinks it is acceptable to tell gross lies and half truths to Americans if it helps your political party to maintain political control or believe that Jesus loves you but shares your same hatred for homosexuals and Democrats or call yourself conservative while you spend like there is no tomorrow. Thanks for all the corrupt memories GOP. Given the economic messes youve created and all the innocent blood on your hands, it is obvious that you are the real socialists. It is clear to all Americans that you accuse Democrates of being "tax and spend" people while you have a clear wasteful legacy as far back as Reagan of "borrow and spend". It is clear to all Americans that you accuse Democrats of wanting to "spread the wealthy" regarding taxation while your clear legacy as far back as Reagan has been to "consolidate the wealth" into the hands of your rich handlers and keepers. Thanks Repugs...
