NP Rank:
Palin: Running for Elected Office or ROYAL EMPRESS DEVINE?
EMPRESS PALIN will speak when the media promises to treat her with the proper "deference" due someone of her exalted rank and stature. Who are the American people to dare expect the GOP vice presidential candidate to answer questions about her candidacy and about where she stands on issues like some commoner? We should all bow and feel blessed that her name is in the hat, and just enjoy looking at her, beauty queen that she is.

Palin Media Avoidance Watch: Day 9
McCain Camp Says She Won't Do Interviews Until It Knows She'll Be Treated with "Deference"
September 07, 2008 - 9:41 AM
Rick Davis, campaign manager for Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., just told Fox News Channel's Chris Wallace that McCain running mate Gov. Sarah Palin won't subject herself to any tough questions from reporters "until the point in time when she'll be treated with respect and deference."
Davis assailed the way the media had discussed Palin and her family in the last week and said the campaign would wait until a less hostile media environment. So when will she subject herself to questions?
"When we think it's time and when she feels comfortable doing it," Davis said, praising a Fox News Channel profile of Palin that ran last night. Why is she scared of answering questions? Wallace asked.
"She's not scared to answer questions," Davis said, "but you know what? We run our campaign not the news media." (See link for full article)

Perhaps we could borrow money from Social Security or a some foreign country (anyplace but the military budget) and buy Empress Palin a huge ring for her first press conference. Then carefully selected reporters would have something to kiss in deference when they approach her, with eyes respectfully downcast and perform a deep bow, or a curtsey for the female reporters.
The selected reporters, of course, must promise to read the scripted questions given to them by her campaign managers, and she will deliver the scripted answers. Then she will take her leave, while all stand for a round of applause and a couple of resounding "Hail Empress Palins!"
No questions regarding her children, her children's children, or her children's friends (and certainly not that Kevin!), accusations of her wanting books banned or people fired for daring to cross her, the budget for places where she has ruled in the past, or any other such unpleasantness.
Empress Palin will answer only the scripted questions, and smile for the camera, until she takes her royal leave of the press conference, while all stand with their right hands over their hearts and sigh.

UPDATE 9-9-08
Governor Palin has reportedly scheduled two full days of interviews with ABC News, occurring this week.

We will be crowning her empress in January. Better hope she doesn't start looking up every dissing blogger and saying 'off with their head.'

duo, I like this story. It's good stuff.
This is why she's going to lose the election......her queen of the nile "tude"

Bill, don't think I haven't thought about that! But since I joined Care2, I met folks who promised me political asylum in their countries if it comes to that. LOL!
I have been writing about stuff rich and powerful people don't like for a while now. They don't blink, it seems. People only care what SIGNIFICANT people think, don't you know? And the only thing that makes one truly significant to worldly people is worldly goods, of which I have less than a few. So I should be OK.
Thanks for your comment!

Thanks for the flag and comment, Master_Jim! But please! Have a care for your head!
Bill has spoken of the penchant Her Royal Highness has for revenge, and I fear that it is no idol rumor. Hark! January is just over yonder horizon, Jim. If things go as Bill anticipates, what is left of our Constitutional rights may soon come to naught. So take my advice and purchase a ticket now while January's rates are cheap. I would if I could, but alas, I must stay near the castle's outer gates for now.

Wouldn't this be a natural for that nice new-fangled Opinion flag?
at 16:07 on September 8th, 2008
Pep, Karen Hatter instructed me that I need only put "opinion" in the tags. Did I misunderstand her, or was she in error? Please let me know. Thanks.
at 16:13 on September 8th, 2008
Pep, I put the flag, as suggested.
It is my sincere opinion that Gov. Palin should speak to the American people through the press (without passing out the approved questions) about her vision for the country and what she feels that she has to offer as vice president. Essentially, political contests are much like job applications. Gov. Palin is applying for a position -- the second highest office in the land, perhaps in the world -- and she should expect to answer interview questions. It is only fair and no more than should be expected by any candidate for any public office.

Thank you so much.
I don't have any problems, given the rigors of the convention--let alone the smears!--with her controlling her schedule. I don't think a candidate needs to be available 24/7, on a schedule dictated by media.
She's not refusing to give interviews, she's just controlling her own schedule. They all do that. She's just going to take heat for it, just like she's taking heat for everything.
I wouldn't hire someone who would allow every Tom, Dick, and Harry in the media to run their schedule. Maintaining control of your work process and your schedule is a vital part of leadership.
That's in general. In specific, the way her family has been attacked, including her teenage daughter, I'd darn well advise her to do what others do: set limits. I don't know if you've ever managed a major press conference or interview (I have, many times), or been the person on the hot seat (I have0, the bottom line is; it's OK to set limits. In fact, you're an idiot if you don't.
It's OK for people to interview her fairly on the issues. But so far, there hasn't been much fair about anything that's happened to her or her family. When the media can get themselves back on track with issues vs. personal attacks, then that door will open.
Saying "no" is also a vital part of leadership.
at 17:14 on September 8th, 2008
That explains it then. Maybe she will soon meet the press, or perhaps it will be like Christmas morning. The public will accept the wonderfully wrapped gift, and see what's inside after inauguration day!
I must be honest. Part of why I am upset with the GOP is that the USDOJ under the Bush Admin. will not investigate the secret arrest and death of my brother, Larry, in Shelby County Jail, although it was already under federal jurisdiction when he was held for all that time while we looked for him to give him his heart meds. It just makes me wonder about citizens' rights under another GOP administration.
Ordinarily, I don't even follow the news closely, much less political campaigns. But I think this campaign bears watching because of the injustices I have learned about and experienced during the past few years. End of story.

Hi, Mary. I shared with you my method of tagging. There really isn't a set of rules governing this. Sorry for the confusion.
As I stated, using myself as an example, if I write a lead in for a story that contains an obvious opinion, I flag it as Opinion.
If the lead in just states the facts within the article but, the article itself is an op-ed piece, I put opinion in the tags.
I've shared my method with a staff member and was not told to do otherwise.

Thanks for the flag and comments, Karen.
Before you and my Care2 friend, Black Tiger, spoke, I was beginning to think that I was the one being unreasonable to want to hear more from Governor Palin, herself, regarding her candidacy. Why should Governor Palin expect potential voters to rely on unsubstantiated reports and inuindo when she is able to speak for herself regarding her political positions on issues and answer questions about her general preparedness for office? That is what all the other candidates have been doing for some time now, and it is likely what Governor Palin did quite effectively in her prior political contests.
For that matter, what makes the GOP think that voters are satisfied with this "wait and see game" regarding Governor Palin's candidacy for such high office? Don't they want people to know enough about her to feel confident placing her in the position of second in command? How could the GOP expect to run such a campaign and emerge victorious?
Please tell me the voting machines and other election issues from past presidential contests have been properly addressed.

I get lots of comments on this article that are not allowed to come through, possibly because they are unkind. Please realize that I only voiced out loud what many Americans believe to be true. Governor Palin must interview for the job she is applying for, just as you and I must do. The vice presidency of the United States of America is not a position one can be appointed to by any other than voters, hopefully through a fair election process.
It is good for us to discuss such matters and be allowed to know more about our political candidates for elected office. Is this still to be a GOVERNMENT BY THE PEOPLE, or not?
Even my GOD said to us, "Come, let us reason together." ~ Isiah 1:18.
Is Empress Palin higher than God, whom she apparently hears from personally on matters of war? See: http://www.nowpublic.com/culture/palin-calls-war-iraq-task-god

Bill, I once let fear keep me from acting promptly in my justice issues, and the Holy Spirit brought this scripture to memory:
And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him. ~ Luke 12:4-5
People should be careful with saying things that could be construed as being threatening toward a Child of God. He listens, and He protects.
The fact that you talk this way, even though I suspect you are joking (?), is bad press for Governor Palin. It feeds the impression that she is a vendictive, mean-spirited, controlling, bad-tempered, unGodly witch. And I am sure Governor Palin would not appreciate her supporters giving the public that opinion of her at a time when she might be suffering from Laryngitis or stage fright.
Blessings,
Mary

No, Mary, it isn't unreasonable. The press has tip toed lightly around Senator McCain's health and age since the beginning of his run for the White House.
Some mention he has had several bouts with skin cancer. It is only quickly mentioned that, if elected, he would be the oldest president to be elected. That's what makes Governor Palin's views on world issues so important. Given the attempts to disguise obvious untruths already uncovered, more needs to be revealed about her.
No one is wishing ill to state the obvious and it is understood that a candidate seeking the presidency chooses his running mate for a variety of reasons and chief among them is their view and understanding of the world.
The American people most definitely need to know who the governor from Alaska is and what she knows and understands since she inquired what it was that a vice president did.
If that is an office she is aspiring to fill and being, as is repeated by many, a heart beat away from the presidency, inquiring minds want and need to know.

The UPDATE to this story about Gov. Palin finally condescending to meet the press this week is good news, and I hope something of substance comes out of it. Specifically, I hope she can shed light on the Washington Post article I received this morning that concerned me about her budgeting skills and our already exhausted treasury:
Palin Billed State for Nights Spent at Home
ANCHORAGE, Sept. 8 -- Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has billed taxpayers for 312 nights
spent in her own home during her first 19 months in office, charging a "per diem"
allowance intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business.

Unfortunately, your candidate for the Republican Vice Presidency Ticket, is now out shining her Candidate for Presidency, John McCain. Whose Campaign Manager has said to keep her on the back burner in the next two months. She`s blown to much smoke out of her tucas and will no longer be the intended asset John McCain hoped she would be. Media Coverage is between Senator Obama and Governor Pallin. John McCain is practically out of the picture. How effect is that! Senator Obama doesn`t have to do much at all now to secure his seat.

PBS is conducting an opinion poll to determine how many people feel that Palin is ready to serve as VP. The poll does not require any identifying information from the participants. One can view the tally after voting. Palin has been leading by a narrow magin since I discovered the poll last night. The problem with this poll is that I was allowed to vote twice from the same computer. Don't you hope this is not reflective of possible future problems at the polls in November? LOL! I love writing online and watching the reaction in the world!
Today when I tried to vote again, there is now text saying:
"Your first vote for this poll has been registered. Any subsequent vote will not be counted. This is not a scientific poll."
