Police Are Searching the Palm Bay Community Hospital in Florida After Reported Shots Were Fired in the Cafeteria Area

The unnamed ex-employee has been found dead inside the hospital from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to WESH, the man was terminated about one month ago due to a poor attendance record; he had been an employee for about two years.

Police have identified the shooter as an ex-employee who was recently let go, and that person has now barricaded themselves inside the cafeteria.

He pointed his gun at people, made some threats and fired shots, but he never shot anyone. Police are saying there is no danger to anyone in the hospital at this time.

Surgeries and patient care are continuing as normal.

According to WKMG Orlando, Palm Bay Police have surrounded the hospital and are currently searching for a gunman inside the building.

Unconfirmed reports state that the gunman may be barricaded in the cafeteria, and police will be bringing in a robot.

The emergency room is on lockdown, but there have been no reported injuries at this time.

Officials report the incident began about 2:20 p.m. today in the cafeteria section of the hospital, at 1425 Malabar Road.
