This story really needs no comment, apart that is from wholehearted condemnation of the attack.
Here are just a few additional pieces of information.
The Jewish community in France is the largest in western Europe - estimated at between 500,000 and 600,000. The largest recent growth came in the 1960s with the arrival of Jews from northern Africa.
There are around 450 synagogues throughout the country, with 250 in Paris alone.
The weekend also saw the election of the new chief rabbi Gilles Bernheim.
French Jewish organisations on Sunday condemned an anti-Semitic attack in Paris in which a Jewish teenager was left in a coma after being beaten by youths armed with metal bars.
The 17-year-old was wearing a kippah -- a Jewish skull cap -- when he was attacked in Paris's multi-ethnic 19th district Saturday evening, according to the victim's father.

Good Story, however, French emigres to Israel are rather disproportionate at the moment, especially among religious who emigrate precisely because they feel they cannot go out in public in religious clothing for fear of reprisal from their Arab brethren. France also has a wonderful history of Jewish neglect- should you require any references or further material I would be happy to direct you to the statistics, and the primary source evidence. Moreover, it is interesting how in the past two to three years France has seen more open individual level violence towards Jews than any country in the Western World- recall Ilan Halimi?
