Parker Griffith - Alabama Democrat Switiching to Republican
First term Democrat for Alambama, Parker Griffith, will be switching from a Democrat to a Republican.
The switch was likely due to his environment. Alabama's two Senators, as well as representative Robert Aderholt and Senator Richard Shelby support Parker Griffith's switch. Also, Alabama's history as a republican state likely had an influence in it.
It is rare for a member of either party in the House or Senate to switch from a majority to a minority government. It isn't that uncommon for switches in the opposite direction: Earlier this year Senator Arlen Specter switched from Republican to Democrat.
Rep. Mike Rogers, another Alabama Republican, called the switch "a great development," and likened it to the party switch by Louisiana Rep. Rodney Alexander, who moved from the Democrats to the GOP about six years ago.
"He just could not stomach what the Democrats are doing any longer," Rogers said of Griffith's move.
Griffith will be making a formal announcement this afternoon.
