Patty Bigbee Arrested: Grandmother Tries to Sell Young Grandson
Florida Grandmother Patty Bigbee Was Arrested on Friday For Trying to Sell Her 12-Week-Old Grandson
Patty Bigbee was arrested on Friday for trying to sell the baby in a Dayton Beach Florida parking lot for $30,000. She reportedly approached a buyer in late October and wanted to sell the baby for $75,000 but the buyer haggled her down to $30,000.
After the initial offer however, the buyer contacted police and acted as an informant and kept Bigbee busy while discussing the price until the police could arrive. Bigbee was arrested just after the false transaction was completed and she has now been charged with illegal sale or surrender of a child and communication fraud.
According to the AFP, her boyfriend Lawrence Works concocted the plot, and has also been charged as a principal in the illegal sale. Both are currently being held in Volusia County Jail.
"This was an appalling case," FDLE Resident Agent in Charge Wayne Ivey told AFP. "Our primary concern was taking the child out of harm's way and ensuring he was placed in a safe environment."
WFTV said investigators believe Bigbee may have previously had a role in extortion plots and schemes to sell children.
The baby's mother is already behind bars on unrelated charges; the baby is reportedly doing well and showed no signs of neglect or abuse.
