Pay attention to sex trafficking in Canada during the Olympics
2010 Vancouver Olympics is exciting people as it is scheduled to be held in Feb. 2010. While the Canadian government and sports fans are ecstatic about the event, many of anti-human trafficking advocates raise their concerns over the risk of increasing sex trafficking during the world event.
Human trafficking in Canada:
A research states that many become trafficking victims in Canada through "student visa, domestic workers, and other forms of legal visas." However, their ultimate destination is often the United States, the world's largest market for prostitution. Many of them, once entering the Canadian soil, are smuggled into the U.S. Such process is executed by the organized crimes.
As many are well aware, human trafficking is likely to increase during the Olympics. While the Canadian government recently tightened its regulation on brothel and massage parlors, where the trafficked victims are likely to be spotted, the authority is still finding it a challenge to end such atrocity. Some claim that the difficulty in ending the crime lies on the nature of the crime: the operation run by highly structured organized crime. Some other people blame on corruption for such rampant trafficking in Canada. Either way, it is hard to address the supply side of the sex trade market. prior to the Olympics as neither corruption nor organized crime is something easy to be spotted in a short amount of period. Then, easier way to end the crime is to attack demand side of the market.

I do too. I just don't want to be supporting organized criminals and human traffickers by encouraging demands.
