Pennsylvania Teacher Suspended Over Private Photo With Stripper

A Pennsylvania teacher has been suspended over a private photo taken by someone else and uploaded to Facebook where the teacher appears in the photo with a stripper. Her name has not been released.

The Pennsylvania high school in the Brownsville Area School District said that the teacher was in a 'provocative pose' with a male stripper.

However the American Civil Liberties Union is coming to her defense as they say that the photo was taken at a private event, a bridal shower, and not during school time and was not uploaded to the site by the teacher.

But school board officials defend the 30-day suspension. They say others could face the same punishment if similar pictures of them are posted.

Brianne Mitchell, who saw the photo, said:

"She wasn't posing and she wasn't doing anything inappropriate. She was in the picture."

This is a bit of old news, but the incident is a lesson for professionals of all kinds, when your behavior becomes too common, it undermines the extraordinary nature of status earned on the basis of your credentials and associated excpetional standards and responsibility.

Yes 'old' in the sense that she was suspended about six days ago - not 'old' in the sense that she is still suspended and the case is still going on.

At what point do we allow private lives to remain private? When do we give up the politics of personal destruction for each and every thing? And my friends in Stumptown wonder why I am a small government conservative. Oh, since when were the public schools the arbiters of private morality?

I don't think the suspension was necessary given the fact the teacher didn't exactly have the stripper in the classroom. She didn't pose for the picture. She also didn't post the picture on the FB page. What next? They see a teacher walking on the beach in a bikini and the consequence is suspension? It's personal, it's private, it has no relation to the classroom. I hope she kicks their butt in court.

What ever happen to the frase HOME OF the FREE Give me a break ! DID this INTERFEREwith her teaching skills? Take away from the fact that she has a degree?  In true reality are we being watched more than we know by?????BIG BROTHER?  I thought on had to join the Military to be OWNED by thier job.  We see they are coimg closer to the truth and realization of  DON'T ASK , don't tell is redicculious.  Everyone knows as for professionals  teachers are among the lowest payed and respected.  This IS just another prime example of the double standards ie SC govenor,Bill Clinton they were never suspended from the jobs.
