Rahul Gandhi seems to have done an about face on the issue of a separate Bundelkhand state. The people of this area clearly remember being promised statehood during the last Lok Sabha election campaign. Rahul now says he does not support the demand.
RAHUL GANDHI’S statement at a press conference in which he said,” I don’t support at all the issue of a separate Bundelkhand state.”, has shocked the people of the region, who were counting on the support of the Gandhi scion to push for their demand of a separate state.
The Congress General Secretary’s stand on statehood for Bundelkhand was understood to be pro until this statement. In fact the people of Bundelkhand voted Congress candidates into power upon Rahul’s open declaration of support to the issue of a separate statehood for Bundelkhand during the last Lok Sabha election campaign.
The disappointment of the people found expression in Sanjay Pandey’s voice. The chief convener of the Bundelkhand Akikrit Party said, “The real face of Rahul Gandhi has been exposed now. He only flirted with us on the Bundelkhand issue. During the election campaign of the 15th Lok Sabha election in Jhansi he was shouting for a separate Bundelkhand state, but then the innocent Bundelkhandees did not know the reality of this congress man and hence they supported his party candidate Pradeep Jain. But Rahul has only played with our emotions.”
