Pepco Power Outages July 26 2010: Severe Storms Knock Out Power
Two People Died After a Severe Storm Swept Through the Washington Area, Knocking Out Power to Thousands
Pepco is recording the power outages although they website is under severe strain at this time so it is having trouble loading.
Baltimore Gas and Electric are reporting that there are about 18,695 customers without power in Anne Arundel, 90 in Montgomery County and about 8,630 in Prince George's County.
According to Dr. Gridlock on the Washington Post site there is some discrepancy between those numbers and getting the correct numbers from Pepco.
Pepco tweeted at about 4:51pm PDT that 190,000 customers were still without power, with over 1,000 downed power lines in their service area.
In northern Virginia there are about 10,000 without power at the time of publication.
Crews are working hard to restore power to as many customers as they can as quickly as possible, but due to downed trees and busy roads some areas are slower to have their power restored than others.
There are many traffic problems to deal with as people try to get to work on Monday morning and it is expected that issues resulting from the power outages will last through the rush hour and much of Monday July 26.
One person in Beltsville, Maryland was killed and another was injured when a tree fell on a car they were driving in, and another was killed in Millersburg, Pennsylvania when they were electrocuted by a downed power line reports CNN.
If you wish to report a power outage, you can call Pepco at 1-877-737-2662 or Allegheny Power at 1-800-255-3443

Having lived most of my life near DC, I need to inform the readers that PEPCO isn't the only electric utility in Montgomery and Prince Georges Counties in Maryland. Sections of both counties are served by Baltimore Gas & Electric Co (the BGE's)/ Southern Prince Georges is served by the Southern Maryland Electric Co-Op, which buys most of its power from PEPCO. The northwestern section of Montgomery is supplied by Allegheny Power. Northern Virginia is served by Dominion Power. Parts of Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun counties are under Northern Virginia Electric Co-Op.
