Pepsi IPL 2013 Match 51: KXIP vs RCB Live Scorecard
Kings XI Punjab chose to bowl first against Royal Challengers Bangalore after winning the toss at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Monday (May 6).
Cheteshwar Pujara was named in the Bangalore side and was set to play his first match in the sixth edition of the Pepsi Indian Premier League. Ravi Rampaul was brought back in, as well, with KL Rahul and Muttiah Muralitharan making way.
Punjab made just one change, with Michael Nesser, the young quick bowler from Australia, replacing Luke Pomersbach.
Punjab come into the game on the back of three consecutive losses, the last of which came against Chennai Super Kings on Thursday (May 2). However, with five of their six remaining matches at home, they’re still in with a chance of qualifying for the knockouts. David Hussey, the captain, said it was important for the team to back themselves. “We need to play our game and back ourselves. We had a good training session yesterday with some nice fielding drills, and then had a good net session. We’re hoping to show that in the field today.”
Bangalore claimed their first win on the road against Pune Warriors on Thursday and Virat Kohli, the captain, who admitted he’d have bowled first as well, said it was important to carry forward the momentum. “We’ve played good, consistent cricket throughout the tournament and it was good to win away last game,” he said. “We need to take the momentum into this one. The guys showed a lot of character against Pune, didn’t let the away record bother them and focused on the game. We’ll look to do that here as well.”
Bangalore, Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals are all level on 14 points, but Bangalore sit at second spot in the table with a superior run-rate. Punjab languish at sixth spot and are aiming to keep alive their hopes of qualification to the knockout round.
