Pepsi IPL 2013 Match 55: KXIP vs RR Live Scorecard
Adam Gilchrist returned to captain Kings XI Punjab, who were put in to bat by Rajasthan Royals in their Pepsi IPL clash in Mohali on Thursday (May 9).
Gilchrist was one of the major changes in the Punjab side that beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets on Monday, while Rajasthan also rung in four changes to the side scored a comprehensive nine-wicket win over Pune Warriors India on Tuesday.
Rahul Dravid, the Rajasthan captain, said his decision was based on the nature of the pitch at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium. “We feel it’s a little bit dry, so the ball might stop a bit in the afternoon. It gets a little bit easier to bat later in 4pm games,” explained Dravid.
Gilchrist was happy with the decision to bat, saying: “I’m not bothered really. It was a 50-50 decision for me today.”
Rajasthan included Dishant Yagnik, S Sreesanth, Kevon Cooper and Ajit Chandila, while Bipul Sharma got his first game for Punjab this season.
Asked if Rajasthan had any special plans for David Miller, fresh off an unbeaten 38-ball 101 against Bangalore, Dravid said the team was more focused on getting what they could do right.
“We talk about a few things, but we don’t try and complicate things too much. We focus on what our skills are and we know that if we bowl good balls, it will be difficult for anyone,” said Dravid.
Both teams are in the running for a playoff spot, though Rajasthan, with 16 points in 12 games, are considerably better placed than Punjab, who have ten points in 11 games.
