Pepsi IPL 2013 Match 56: PWI vs KKR Live Scorecard
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and opted to bat against Pune Warriors India at Subrata Roy Sahara stadium in Pune on Thursday (May 9).
Both sides named changes to their sides. Kolkata brought in Ryan ten Doeschate in place of Ryan McLaren, while Debabrata Das made way for Manoj Tiwary. For Pune, Parveez Rasool, the Jammu and Kashmir offspinner, came in place of Rahul Sharma.
Kolkata are still in with a technical chance of qualifying for the playoffs, but it would need a massive collapse from other teams for them to do so.
Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata captain, was typically robust when asked if he was looking for other teams to fall, saying, “Not looking for other teams to do us a favour. We’re professionals, we are the champions and we should always try and play to the best of our ability.”
Having opted to bat, Gambhir also admitted the pitch was unpredictable but hoped it had some runs it in.
Pune, meanwhile, are completely out of the running for the playoffs and will be more concerned with arresting a seven-match losing streak. Despite the run of losses, Aaron Finch, the captain, believes the team has improved. “I think we’ve made improvements in the last few games,” he said. “Things are not going according to plan, but our approach and execution has been good.”
He also had a warning for Kolkata. “They’ve got a mathematical chance tonight,” he said. “If we can ruin it, it’d be great.”
