Pepsi IPL 2013 Match 63: KXIP vs RCB Live Scorecard
Adam Gilchrist, the Kings XI Punjab captain, won the toss and chose to bowl first against Royal Challengers Bangalore in a crucial Pepsi Indian Premier League encounter at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on Tuesday (May 14).
Both teams made a host of changes. Zaheer Khan’s return was the big news for Bangalore, who need a win to keep up their chances of a playoff spot. Muttiah Muralitharan, KL Rahul and Arun Karthik also made their way back into the team, with Abhimanyu Mithun, Murali Karthik, Ravi Rampaul and Saurabh Tiwary left out. For Punjab, injured Praveen Kumar made way for Manpreet Gony while Manan Vohra and Azhar Mahmood replaced Harmeet Singh and Luke Pomersbach.
Speaking about Punjab’s chances of making the playoffs, Gilchrist said only a very able mathematician would be able to work it out for them. Punjab have beaten Bangalore in Bangalore on two occasions in the past and Gilchrist said it was not an impossible thing to do.
“Although it is a very difficult challenge,” Gilchrist added. “The Big Three (Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers) are well supported by the rest of the players and with Zaheer Khan back in the side, they are very strong.”
Kohli, the Bangalore captain, was happy to play at home. “It’s been a tough three weeks on the road,” he said. “We played good games but couldn’t cross the line. Looking forward to playing at home.”
The wicket, Kolhi said, was likely to stay the same in both innings and said he would have liked to field first too. Gilchrist, asked why he decided to bowl, said, “The crowd here wants to watch Gayle bat!”
