Pepsi IPL 2013 Match 65: KKR vs PWI Live Scorecard
Kolkata Knight Riders won the toss and chose to bowl first against Pune Warriors India at the Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium in Ranchi on Wednesday (May 15).
Kolkata were unchanged from the side that beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by five wickets on May 12, while Pune had four changes, with Luke Wright, Ishwar Pandey and Ali Murtaza returning and Raiphi Gomez handed his first game of the Pepsi IPL 2013.
Kolkata’s season has received an unexpected fillip with Sunrisers Hyderabad and Bangalore remaining on 16 points after losing matches they looked capable of winning during the past week. Kolkata, who have 12 points with two games in hand, need to win both and hope Hyderabad and Bangalore continue losing, to catch them up on points and force a net run-rate shootout.
“We don’t want to think too much ahead of us,” said Gautam Gambhir, the Kolkata captain, when asked if qualification was playing on his team’s mind. “We just want to concentrate on today’s game. You put too much pressure on yourself by thinking of it as a must-win game.”
Aaron Finch, the Pune captain, said he was happy batting first. “I probably would have batted. I don’t think it’s going to get any better as the game goes on, so we’d have had a first crack. There’s a little bit of green grass here, so hopefully it comes on to the bat well.”
This is the second match that Ranchi is hosting in this season. The first match, on May 12, was a low-scoring one, but Gambhir said the pitch looked better than it had then. “It looks like a much better pitch, hopefully there will be more runs. It won’t change that much and we have two quality spinners so hopefully they’ll come into play,” he said.
