Pepsi IPL 2013 Match 67: KXIP vs DD Live Scorecard
Delhi Daredevils won the toss and chose to bowl first against Kings XI Punjab at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamasala on Thursday (May 16).
Both sides strengthened their seam-bowling options, with Delhi bringing back Morne Morkel and Praveen Kumar returning in place of Manpreet Gony for Punjab after missing a game due to an injury.
Mahela Jayawardene, who returned to captain Delhi after being forced to sit out in the side’s last match in Chennai, said the pitch looked like a good one for the quicker bowlers and would also have plenty of runs. “All our guys looked at this strip and said it’s a good one for the quicks,” said Jayawardene.
Adam Gilchrist, the Punjab captain who is fresh of a match-winning 85 not out that helped his side beat Royal Challengers Bangalore on Tuesday, said he too would have batted first on a pitch that reminded him of the ones back in Australia.
Punjab have 12 points from 14 points and still retain a slim chance of making it to the playoffs in the Pepsi IPL 2013, but they have to win both remaining matches for that and hope other results go their way. “If we don’t uphold our end of the bargain, it doesn’t matter what happens elsewhere,” acknowledged Gilchrist.
Delhi have only six points, the same as Pune Warriors India who have a worse net run-rate. A win here will help Delhi have a better chance of avoiding the wooden spoon. “Obviously we haven’t played to our potential. We didn’t create that many opportunities and didn’t grab the ones that came our way. It’s a tough season, but we need to learn from it and move on,” said Jayawardene.
