Pepsi IPL 2013 Match 69: KXIP vs MI Live Scorecard
Sachin Tendulkar sat out for the second Pepsi IPL match in a row as Mumbai Indians chose to field first against Kings XI Punjab at the HPCA Stadium in Dharamasala on Saturday (May 18).
Anil Kumble, the Mumbai Indians mentor, had said on Friday that it would be “tough” for Tendulkar to recover in time for the match, and Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai captain, said “Unfortunately he’s not recovered from his hand injury.”
Rohit, who has led his team to eight wins in nine matches, said he hoped to carry forward Mumbai’s momentum into the playoffs. As for the rationale behind choosing to bowl first, he said, “I don’t know what a good score here is, and it’s a small and high-scoring ground, so I thought it’s better to have a target in front of us.”
Mumbai made two changes to their side, bringing in Nathan Coulter-Nile for Mitchell Johnson while Pragyan Ojha was replaced by Rishi Dhawan.
Gurkeerat Singh returned to the Punjab sid,e replacing R Satish who is suffering from a knee injury.
Adam Gilchrist, the Punjab captain, had announced earlier that this season would be his last, reiterated that he wouldn’t be back next year. “I mentioned it last year as well but I don’t think anyone will take a 42-year old in an auction,” said Gilchrist.
The match is inconsequential from the point of view of qualifying for the playoffs in the Pepsi IPL, with Mumbai already assured of a top-two finish, and Punjab knocked out of the race following Sunrisers Hyderabad win against Rajasthan Royals in Hyderabad on Friday.
