Pepsi IPL 2013 Match 71: PWI vs DD Live Scorecard
Pune Warriors India won the toss and chose to bat first against Delhi Daredevils on Sunday (May 19) in a bottom-table clash that will decide which team will end up with the wooden spoon in the Pepsi IPL 2013.
Both Pune and Delhi have only three wins from 15 matches, and the captains of both teams were keen to end what has been a dismal season on a positive note. There were changes for both teams, with Bharat Chipli and Shahbaz Nadeem coming in for Delhi, in place of Unmukt Chand and Ashish Nehra, while Ashok Dinda returned to the Pune side as Ishwar Pandey made way.
The pitch at the Subrata Roy Stadium in Pune played a part in Pune’s decision to bat. “Runs on the board in this competition have been a good idea here,” said Aaron Finch, the Pune captain.
“There’s a lot riding on this, because we’re playing to avoid the bottom spot.”
Mahela Jayawardene, the Delhi captain, was uncertain how the pitch would play. “We’re not sure what to expect of it, hopefully it’ll be a decent wicket,” he said.
Both Finch and Jayawardene reiterated that while the season had been a less-than-happy one, with Delhi and Pune being among the earliest teams to get knocked out of the playoffs race, they had enjoyed the challenges on the field and the support off it.
