2008-10-09 23:12:57 - LIMA, Peru (AP) - Peru's remaining cabinet ministers have offered their combined resignation to President Alan Garcia in the wake of an oil-kickback scandal.
Sectors of the opposition had called for the 16 ministers to step down after a scandal over alleged oil kickbacks forced the energy minister and a top oil executive to resign on Monday.
It is unknown if Garcia will accept the ministers' resignation. Garcia suspended five oil contracts with Norwegian oil company Discover Petroleum on Monday after audiotapes surfaced that allegedly captured a state oil executive and member of Garcia's political party discussing payoffs for steering business toward the company.
