PESHAWAR: The Spring season has just arrived in Peshawar, once famous as the City of Flowers. Peshawar’s flowers were even mentioned in Moghal Emperor Babur’s memoirs. With present ANP-led provincial government trying to bring back the greenery of the City, one can expect a lot of flowers around and inside Peshawar to make the Spring Season regain its lost glory in Peshawar. Soon, there will be a sudden burst of colours and fragrance everywhere from wild patches of grass covering every nook and cranny of the city to adorned gardens of citizens. The parks will surely be giving a beautiful look after the flowers bloom with the arrival of Spring. The life in nature has already started sprouting out with numerous wild flowers blossoming at various places. The continuous hovering of bumble bees and different species of butterflies make a perfect symmetry with a background of dotted green, blue, yellow and red colours. The fragrance, eye catching colours, size and freshness appeals to sensual power of a lover of nature. The view around the Peshawar-Islamabad motorway will be watch worth as the trees at the bank of the motorway will be fully covered with flowers. Premises of government and private offices, universities, colleges, schools, public parks, will witness flowers blooming to divert the attention of Peshawarites towards them. The most sought after flowers include lotus, marigold, rose, bougainvillea, orchid, Pensy, Phalaenopsis, Rudbeckia Fulgida, Grape hyancyth, Royal autumn Lilies, Aussie julie, Cernedia, Butter cup, Daisy, Sow thistle, Dahlia, Crisantehimum and Zexmenida etc. The Peshawar Development Authority has also initiated a drive to make the modern residential township Hayatabad a green and flowery look and number of baren lands was converted to green belt in different areas. The entrence point at Phase-3 no have a beautiful look where greenry and flowers welcome the people as they enter into the Hayatabad.

I lived in Peshawar with my parents back in mid 80s in the cantonment area. our house was next to a newly built park. and it was a pleasant sight no doubt. like any other city Peshawar is also suffering from land mafia and illegal constructions that are spoiling the historic beauty of the city.
