Philippine SWAT storm bus with hostages in Manila

Former Filipino Police Officer Ronaldo Mendoza Killed, 6 Manila Hostages Dead,  (video)

A stand off between between a gunman who hijacked a bus load of tourists in Manila and Filipino police is over. The gunman identified as fired former police officer is dead and approximately 6 of the 25 hostages he held have been killed.

The gunman, identified as 55-year-old Rolando Mendoza who was armed with an M-16 assault rifle, had stopped the bus, which initially had 25 people on board, across a wide road in Manila’s biggest park on Monday morning.

Mr. Mendoza had threatened to kill the hostages in a live telephone interview with a local radio station.

“I can see there are many SWAT teams arriving, they are all around,” Mr. Mendoza, speaking in Tagalog, had said. “I know they will kill me, I’m telling them to leave because anytime I will do the same here.”

Reports say in a crazed bid to get his job back Mendoza hijacked the bus off a Manilo road. The tourist bus reportedly had 25 tourists on board mostly from Hong Kong.

actually, kasalanan nung kapatid eh. isko moreno had already narrated what really happened. They planned on how to negotiate with his brother(hostage taker) kaso iniba nya ung plano.yung kapatid, kinuha muna ung baril niya fr safe keeping, ok lang daw then nung lumapit na sila sa bus, sabi nung kapatid, "wag ka papayag hanggat hindi sinosoli baril ko" which made his brother think n siya ay inaapi. so what they team did was to leave the brother out of their plan kasi nga hindi sumusunod. so sabe dun muna siya sa isang room. ang ginawa niya ay tumakbo sa press at hinabol siya ng mga pulis dahil hindi siya dapat dun. kaya ayon nalang sa nakita ni hostage taker, eh hinuhuli ang kapatid niya which is talagang hindi naman. ayon kaya the brother deserves to be jailed. kung hindi siya sumira sa usapan nilang plano, hindi magagalit si hostage taker.. sad.

how do you sure If there is a plan between him and the policemen are you there during operation? I been observing the whole time of hostage taking and I believe the most responsible person is the police who forcedly arrest his brother!

grabe yung grammar mo. do you sure? HAHAHAHAon a more serious note...can we just forget the fact that this is a national embarrassment? forget that we won't be seeing tourists around for some time? INNOCENT LIVES WERE TAKEN BY AN INSANE MAN. INNOCENT LIVES. that is the real tragedy.

The end does not justify the means but his case should be reviewed if it is really worth to lose his life claiming his innocence of his case.  I pity him but the ground commander and the negotiator made some lapses in this case specially in dragging his brother and relatives which I believed trigger his thin line of sanity.  So sad.....

Dude, I think that's a low blow. He was really referring to a "chef" (professional cook) when he mentioned chef in his comments above. I think he was referring to a former chef of a five-star hotel in Makati who filed the extortion case against the hostage taker so be mindful of thoughts para 'wag tayong magmukhang stupid ha? cheers :-p

you didn't get his point. what he is referring to is Chef as in a person who cooks. not the chief. Do you get what i mean? Think before you comment. it makes you pathetic.

When it comes to something as a hostage crisis the first thing to be considered is the safety of the hostages. This is something that the police failed to do. They stormed outside the bus throwing flashbangs and tear gas that would've suffocated everyone inside EXCEPT the assailant. The assailant is a former captain in their ranks it's obvious that he's fully prepared for something conventional as tear gas. In my opinion they should've planned their assault more if not giving in to the demands. Also who ever said it was a good idea to anger the guy by arresting his brother?
