The House of Representatives wants two holidays to be officially recognized and add to the 11 regular holidays to be observed in 2009.
Quote
Members of the House of Representatives want the Chinese New Year and the foundation of the Iglesia Ni Cristo to be added in the list of special non-working holidays to be observed in the country.
Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez said allowing Filipinos to celebrate the Chinese New Year is one way of recognizing the "great contributions" to Filipino society of Chinese-Filipinos.
On the other hand, Quezon City Rep. Mary Ann Susano, whose congressional district covers the INC executive office on Commonwealth Avenue, said July 27 is the date when Felix Manalo founded the INC, which is the second biggest religious group in the country today.
Once passed into law, the holidays will be added to the existing 11 regular holidays and three nationwide special holidays listed under Republic Act No. 9492 and to the five special non-working days as provided in Proclamation 1699 for observance this 2009.
Let see if I understand what you wrote. a business is a commercial enterprise dealing with the exchange or buying and selling of products. As far as I know, the Iglesia ni Cristo is a religious organization and I've never heard them selling anything. So, either you're not defining business as I've defined above, or you don't really know what the Iglesia ni Cristo is, or you're just trying to be an a**hole, pardon my french, and fishing for a fight with Iglesia ni Cristo supporters because calling them a business is disrespectful. Or it could also be all 3.
Catholics has the majority of the holidays. Have you heard of Maundy thursday, good friday, all saints' day and Christmas? I'm sure they celebrate that in Negros and maybe even London. Muslims has Eid al Fit'r. The Iglesia ni Cristo do not celebrate any of these but tend not to interfere with the practices of other faiths.. They even say the catholic holidays to be unbiblical.
Besides, they didn't ask for the holiday. Lawmakers deemed it appropriate and I personally can see why. It's the only Philippine originated and based religious group that is now present all over the world. This is not just a claim but can be verified by the offices and churches they built and occupy.
Taxes for what? You being an athiest, do you really want to fighting this tax war on religion that you know you're not going to win?

A business venture does not limit itself to trading goods. Someone selling services in exchange for cash or goods is also considered as being into a business enterprise. Buying yourself into afterlife, a worship service, a good sermon or simply having the good feeling that you are "in the company of your God", and in exchage, you give substantial donations and offerings. Doesn't that sound like a business? And then of course, a good business should be good in marketing. A national holiday is a good advertising scheme. I read a thesis on the Business Paradigm of the INC. I've saved it on my hard drive. Drop by and comment on my webpage if you're interested.
This sounds like the Catholic church. Isn't there a fee for baptism, prayer for the dead, marriages and such? Not to mention the business ventures the Catholic church is into. You could also say this is Eliseo Soriano's church, what with the lugaw(congee) stand right next to the pulpit?
if they'll pay taxes...it should be written down the law that NON-PROFITABLE ORGANIZATIONS is obliged to do it...then Catholics must do it also for they are one of the biggest religions in the world....and pls observe that the Catholic Day you are looking for is ther feasts / and their Holy Week...
