The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) recently announced that it will help further develop the locally made mechanical anti-terrorist concept or MAC with a PhP1.7 million (PhP 48 = USD 1) funding.
According to its lead developer, John Judilla of the Mapua Institute of Technology, his team is currently working on a cheaper version of MAC with added enhancements.
The Inquirer.net reported that Judilla's team "will make the new version capable of operating underwater and be able to go up and down staircases".
MAC's developers are currently looking for a company that will mass produce the robot. A mass-produced MAC will cost Php100,000 a piece said Judilla.
Last month, the prototype MAC robot won first place at the First World Cup on Computer Implemented Inventions in China, competing against 18 countries and over 40 inventions.
After the competition, the team has received interest for intensive collaboration with a foreign university, said Judilla.
