LBC Commercial-Document

I still remember the fight of fellow Filipino boxers, Nonito "The Flash" Donaire & Bryan "The Hawaiian Punch" Viloria aired by a local free TV station. The fight was really good and both fighters are really great.

I pretty much enjoyed it, even though the advertisements are very lengthy. As I was watching, there was this one TV ad (short but pointed) that totally shocked me.

It was an ad by LBC, a local delivery service provider in the Philippines. The ad showed a company boss receiving a package. It was a piece of rolled paper delivered by LBC. The guy who receives the rolled paper walks through the room staring at what he got. Then the sick part happens, he sees an employee on on table who must have taken a nap and HITS HIM REALLY HARD ON THE HEAD.

Now I find this an unlikely attitude (being Filipino), Filipino's would react differently. I'm pretty sure a Filipino would (in his morally equipped mind) just wake that employee up. In much professional reactions, he would have just called in that employee to settle it in a more discreet manner.

Some few days pass and I again saw an LBC ad. This time it was a SPELLING BEE. Edu Manzano (a famous game show host) asked a student for the spelling of "REMITTANCE". The student replied spelling it as "L-B-C". To my dismay the host answered back with "TAMA!"(translated as "correct" in english).

Now, I'm sure that these ads are really misleading and gives out an incorrect idea to young children. Given that this are ads aired over and over through free TV, in which case the whole country has access to. Hitting a fellow employee or teaching kids stupidity is not really setting good example. Not that I have anything against LBC or Edu Manzano but I felt that MTRCB is "NUMB" or as as my wife says it, "BLIND".

Now the question is: "Where is MTRCB's Consoliza Laguardia?" Isn't she supposed to be most concerned?

The MTRCB chair must be very busy doing something else. Buying for a new office perhaps? Heard she's next to "The Office of the Ombudsman".

The LBC ads are still aired in major free TV Stations. Renditions to the spelling bee ad tells LBC is now the correct spelling of  "Instant" & "Affordable".

Good post Francis, Adds are not about truth though, only about sales.

However, I do agree with you, they should be ethical and true as well as morally bound.

That LBC commercial poses threat among young learners and should not be aired. Advertisers of this commercial should be aware of their responsibilities. From my own point of view as a teacher, whatever the strategies or bandwagon the advertisers are using in this commercial is out of the question because of the wrong information it gives to the young learners. I wouldn't be surprise if at one point you asked a kid for the spelling of MILK and shout CAPITAL  N - - - or CAPITAL A - - - - -. please, do something about this.

Not really concerned but more realistic

@ Concerned Kid

"ban all things on Television because,
they are all "misleading".

You sound quite out of your right mind in your statement here.

The provincial board of this province has passed a resolution calling on the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Movie and Television Classification and Review Board (MTRCB) to cause the correction or pullout of what it said was a “misleading” and “improper” television advertisement of a remittance company.

In his privilege speech during the regular session last week, Board Member Ariel Molina said the LBC commercial, in which game show host Edu Manzano asked the boy to spell the word "remittance" and the boy answered “LBC,” was not a good example for children.

“The education department, particularly Secretary Jesli Lapus, should immediately take steps to correct the wrong message of the ad,” Molina said.

His colleague, Joseph Mendoza, Liga ng mga Barangay (League of Villages) Federation president, called on the MTRCB to ban the TV advertisement outright by ordering TV stations to stop the airing of the commercial.

Board Member Shirley Araojo-Abundo also supported the move, saying the alarming LBC spot was similar to a powdered laundry soap ad in which a mother said that one was greater than two.

“Hindi po ito maiintindihan ng mga bata [Children will not understand this],” she said.

Board Member Edwin Tanael, acting vice governor, warned that the advertisement, which have been aired on prime time, would corrupt the minds of thousands of children usually watching at these hours.

Concerned Kid about Elder's Incapacity to know fact from fic

OMG You people. Haven't you heard of figurative language? Now, concerned teacher above, it would have been better to teach your students that advertisement speak of metaphors and hyperboles. By banning this only proves one thing, that institutions like MTRCB is downright moronic. I don't want to live in a society where some of the adults and the government doesn't know what's truly corrupting children's mind. Of all the things, this will be the last.

If we're going to ban this, ban all things on Television because, quite frankly, they are all "misleading" if we're going to use the way you people think.

Come on people. This is really laughable. Overreacting much?

If a kid would actually believe that it is spelled as such. I will definitely blame the school and the parents for letting their child take everything they saw on TV literally.  Teach you're children how to be an active viewer. To asses what they see and hear and to question everything that institutions such as media (and probably schools) are feeding their minds.
Kids nowadays would understand they are not as dumb as you think they are.

Banning this doesn't solve the problem because "misinformation" is everywhere as far as the advertising goes - like how all teenager girls should have that perfect white skin to get that perfect boy, like how this politician can really help or has helped this and that when in fact we all know that he's just pimping himself, like how this product will ultimately save your life when you don't actually need it. That is advertising since god knows when. It is meant to hype. It is meant to sell. Teach that to kids. Education, ultimately, is still the key.

LBC advertisement should be banned immediately. It makes confusion among young individuals especially those 2-4 year old. Image spelling of REMITTANCE, AFFORDABLE & INSTANT is  L  B  C. Edu Manzano as everyone admired for being a respected personality  must be very careful in choosing the ads he will represents. In his game show,  GAME KNB? every correct answer for every given question is a key factor to advance to the next level. Does it mean Edu will accept the contestant answer even it is incorrect? MTRCB and DEP ED on the other hand should be vigilant enough to this type of Ads. They must ensure the wel

A simple straight answer of "wrong" would have be less insulting than your choice of words arj.

I prefer this way:

Edu Manzano: Spell "instant".
Student: Insant. (Remembers). Instant, L-B-C.
Edu Manzano: Bobo! Tanga! Inutil!

What is Mrs. Laguardia's qualification? Being close to the President? GMA should at least give her choices a basic I.Q. test next time.
