Somali pirates have released a greek-owned oil tanker that was siezed nearly two months ago. the crew, held hostage the entire time, is safe.
A ransom was paid, though the amount is undisclosed.
The Liberian-flagged tanker MV Genius, seized Sept. 26, was released Friday and is about 500 miles (800 kilometers) off Somalia on its way to the United Arab Emirates, ministry spokesman Constantine Gialelis said.
The pirates had seized the 6,765 gross-ton vessel in the Gulf of Aden near the Horn of Africa, waters that have become highly dangerous for shipping.

wow, I don't often read about the crew actually being safe after the fact, so that's kind of a relief

It is common for crews to be safe. These pirates do this as a business - this year they have earned US$20 million in ransoms. They hare holding 14 ships at present. Owners pay on average $1m to get their ships released.
The supertanker ransom, is, I have heard, $250 million
