PKS hopes Yudhoyono to come to parliament over fuel price hikes

"We hope the president will be present in the House to answer the questions in the inquiry and thus show the government`s seriousness in facing the matter," PKS President Tifatul Sembiring said after attending a function titled "National Launch of Candidates for Membership in the DPR of 2009-2014" here on Thursday.

He said there was a widespread public impression that the government never responded seriously to legislators` interpellations. But now that the House wuuld exercise its right of inquiry (which is more comprehensive and demanding than an interpellation), it was hoped the government would be more serious in answering legislators` questions and account for its policy, Sembiring said.

The House of Representatives (DPR) at a plenary session on Tuesday (June 24) approved a proposal to conduct an inquiry on the government`s policy to increase the domestic fuel prices.

During a vote at the session, 130 of the 364 lawmakers present agreed to the use of the House`s interpellation right while 234 others were against it.

Based on the voting results, House Speaker Agung Laksono who led the plenary meeting, rejected the lawmakers` proposal for the exercise of the interpellation right.
