Cobb County emergency officials said a small plane has crashed in Kennesaw.

The light plane crashed just after 3 p.m. near Sumit Woods Drive. News Chopper 2 HD flew over the scene and a lot of smoke and flames could be seen pouring from the plane.

Witnesses said it appeared the plane was either taking off or attempting to land at McCollum Field when it crashed nose first. The plane crashed in a wooded area.

Officials said the plane appears to be a Socata TBM 700 and it can seat six or seven people. It is not known how many people were on the plane when it crashed.

The plane is registered to Flying Max, LLC of Vero Beach, Fla.

good stuff:

Sad but true. I heard this on the radio on my way back from work. They said one person comfirmed dead.

This is so sad....My brother is a pilot and McCollum is his home airport. He just happened to be on one of the taxi ways when he witnessed the aircraft on final approach. The pilot was performing "S" turns on final to either gain distance between aircraft on final or to lose some altitude if he was too high. Apparently while performing these "S" turns the aircraft stalled and subsequently crashed there just wasn't enough room to regain control. The pilot had just picked up the aircraft from Vero Beach and was on his way home (to McCullum) while his wife and kids watched in horror as their father and husband crashed.
