Like all government programs that evolved and expand from one purpose to other related purposes, “Planned Parenthood” encompasses many valuable services. Since Republicans insist on putting Planned Parenthood on critical path, let’s consider it.
Planned Parenthood addresses four critical areas:
If you are 100% antiabortion – Republican or Democrat, then there is no arguing or reasoning. However, if you believe that there are exceptions when abortions are a last resort option, then let’s discuss.
Since our society does not have sufficient resources to care for all of the people brought into the world “unplanned,” then 1) something needs to be done to prevent the number of unwanted births, and 2) something must be done to avoid the problem through education and contraception. That is moral assistance. Allowing the opposite to occur is socially and morally irresponsible.
Birth control is something for which even the Pope is on board. God bring them to their senses.
Sexually transmitted diseases have been an epidemic and the situation is vastly improved as a result of Planned Parenthood.
So, Congressmen and Senators who are stuck in the past paradigm of social irresponsibility, you are the lost generation. Sorry, out of office you go. We must abort.
“Boehner and Reid say they've "narrowed the issues." That means they're very close on total spending cuts (somewhere around $35 billion) and very clear on what's left to negotiate. The problem, however, is that as small as a policy rider over federal funding for Planned Parenthood might be, the distance between the two parties on the underlying issue is great. Democrats were appalled yesterday when Republicans made a one-week stopgap contingent on a rider barring Washington, DC from using its own money to fund abortion for low-income women (so much for home rule). The stop gap went nowhere, even though the issue of how DC can use its own funds is, in the national context, small.”
