Bold Poker Tournament Robbery In Berlin

Masked robbers stormed European Poker Tournament (EPT) at Grand Hyatt hotel in Berlin, Germany on Sunday. The five-day poker tournament was interrupted on the last day of competition when six armed men burst into the room full of players, stealing a portion of the €4.6 million jackpot. Some players were injured during the incident. It is alleged that robbers had Kalashnikov rifles and hand-held grenades. Deutsche Welle alleges that robbers did leave a "mountain of evidence." The incident was also captured by surveillance cameras. However, the robbers are still at large.

TV footage shot at the time of the incident shows the sense of general panic ensuing among players when robbers entered the room. The feed than cuts to commercial as the chaos continues.

It is now believed the robbers got away with less than 200,000 euros, and not the 800,000 euros as first thought.

Celebrities including German tennis player Boris Becker and British author Charlotte Roche were in attendance at the tournament.

The robbery already prompted some gambling websites to advocate for "safe" online poker.

The safest poker tournaments are online poker tournaments.

How did these robbers get through security with all those high grade weapons? I think the people in charge with security should be investigated.
