Poland Enforces Chemical Castration Of Sex Offenders

Poland is likely to become the first European country to force chemical castration of all sex offenders deemed a risk to others, reports the Telegraph.

The new Polish law will increase jail terms for paedophilia and incest, and make any attempt to justify paedophilia punishable by up to two years in prison. Poland is strengthening its sex offender laws after a recent case of incest shocked the country.

Chemical castration of criminals has been tested in at least nine US states (pdf), Sweden, Denmark, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Israel, but it has so far remained a voluntary treatment.

Supporters are reminding those against the move that the effects of chemical castration are not permanent, nor are they a guarantee that a paedophile will not re-offend.

Chemical castration is not permanent, and only lasts for the time the medication is administered. It consists of anti-androgen drugs, and aims to reduce sex drive.

I hope the chemical they use is sulfuric acid, nothing like dipping their nibbly bits into a vat of acid to cure what ails them.

Individual freedom is important, but it can't supersede that of others.  I hope along with the anti-androgens they receive some sort of mental therapy.
