As Poland welcomes the USA to place a a missile defense battery there Russia has stated that this opens Poland up as a legitimate target for attack from them. With the attack on Georgia still sending shockwaves both physically and politically around the world fears for a new cold war maybe even real war grow as the USA and Russia square up and posture. Meanwhile China quietly continues to grow in confidence - who ever they bed down with will have the upper hand at least initially.

The USA and Russia - the great protectors.

A top Russian general said Friday that Poland's agreement to accept a US missile defense battery exposes the country to attack, pointing out that Russian military doctrine permits the use of nuclear weapons in such a situation, the Interfax news agency reported.

The statement by Gen. Anatoly Nogovitsyn is the strongest threat that Russia has issued against the plans to put missile defense elements in former Soviet satellite nations.

On Thursday, Poland and the U.S. signed a deal for Warsaw to accept a missile defense battery as part of a system Washington says is aimed at blocking attacks by rogue nations. Moscow, however, says it is aimed at weakening Russia.

"Poland, by deploying (the system) is exposing itself to a strike — 100 percent," Nogovitsyn, the deputy chief of staff, was quoted as saying.

LF the statements made by Russian representatives is a bit distrubing, as they appear to be flexing their military muscle to acheive some political objectives.  Although, they've signed a preliminary 6-point peace plan with Georgia (a vague basic document), however, the most recent reports indicate the military is "diggin'-in" instead of "packin'-up" and "movin'-out"!
