Police besiege hideout of armed robbers in Aceh

Banda Aceh (ANTARA News) - Hundreds of police personnel with the support of military troops and local residents besought a location suspected to be a hideout of armed robbers in Tumpui village, Trienggadeng sub-district, Pidie district, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam.

"The hideout of the robbers who had robbed a golden jewelry store in Tringgadeng and got away with two kilograms of jewelry is still being surrounded," a spokesman for NAD police Senior Commissioner Jodi Heryati here on Monday.

Six armed robbers broke into two jewelry shops in Trienggadenga on Sunday at 13:30 local time. After robbing the shops, the criminals fled to a forested areas driving a Kijang van.

Security personnel need to be very careful in hunting down the robbers who are armed with AK-47 assault rifles and FN handguns.

"Such caution is aimed at preventing unnecessary exchange of fire, especially that civilians also joined hunting party. The robbers may still be hiding in a hilly area," he said.

According to him, security personnel will continue the manhunt, as they were believed to be very dangerous robbers.(*) end
