There has been a shooting at a school carpark in the northern Norwegian town of Tromso.

It has been confirmed that a police officer shot his ex-girlfriend teacher then himself in a carpark at the Slettaelva elementary school and kindergarten in Tromso .

The man is in hospital is aged 53-year-old and is listed as being in a "extremely critically condition".

Police spokesman Torstein Lindquister told a Norway television station."Two adults are involved and both are shot, one person has been confirmed killed and one seriously injured has been taken to hospital here in Tromso."

No children were hurt and all were safe.

The motive for the shooting is currently unclear but the woman was in her early 40s and had been living with the officer before they separated last week.

The former couple's names will not be released until next of kin are informed.

The incident reportedly took place in the car park of the Slettaelva school in Tromso.

Police say the situation is now under control and no children were hurt in the shooting.

"Two adults are involved and both are shot," police spokesman Torstein Lindquister told NRK television.

"One person has been confirmed killed and one seriously injured has been taken to hospital here in Tromsoe."

He said the victims were a man and a woman.

It was not clear which one of them had died.

Information suggests one of the injured was the shooter, Mr Lindquister said.

A shooting incident in the car park of a school in northern Norway has left one adult dead and one injured, Norwegian media say, quoting police.

Details of the incident in Tromsoe are sketchy, but a police officer said "only these two people were involved".

Police were not looking for an attacker, they added.

Staff at the school confirmed that there had been a shooting, but said that no children were involved and that all of their pupils were safe.

Coming from Tromso I have followed this case since I first heard of it.
Firstly, from the photo above you can see one person with a blanket on top, and another person besides the car. The police first went out and said that both were dead, but then it turned out that the shooter still was living, but badly injuried. Does that mean that the person we see on the picture is still living????

Please tell me I am wrong.

Police treatment of this case is highly questionable.....
