Police officer shot Dead in Northern Ireland

A police officer has been shot dead in Craigavon in Northern Ireland at around 10pm Irish time tonight. This shooting comes only 2 days after 2 British soldiers were shot dead in Co. Antrim. Two officers were ambushed when responding to "suspicious activity" in the Lismore Manor area. This puts massive pressure on the Northern Irish Peace process. All mainstream politicians in Ireland and UK have condemned the killings have emphasized the importance of not returning to the conflict. Northern Ireland was put on severe warning level on Friday before these attacks.

Thanks for posting. I expect there will be speculation that this was the work of the Real IRA, as has been claimed with the previous attack. Has anyone admitted responsibility yet?

A policeman has been killed in County Armagh as he responded to a call from a "vulnerable" member of the public.

The officer was "gunned down" on Monday night as he got out of a car at Lismore Manor, in Craigavon, police said.

No-one has admitted to killing the officer, who is yet to be named. Police chief Sir Hugh Orde called it a "sad day" for Northern Ireland's force.

Politicians condemned the shooting, which happened two days after two soldiers were murdered in Antrim.

The soldiers were shot dead outside an army base on Saturday in an attack the Real IRA has said it was behind.
