While attempting to maintain law and order and protect citizens, police have had to deal with the 'enemy within' yet again when three off-duty officers from three different Lower Mainland Vancouver forces were arrested by members of the Vancouver Police Department for alleged assault and robbery early Wednesday morning.

No charges have been laid to date but one police officer has been re-assigned to desk duty and another suspended with pay.

This latest incident adds to the burden already being suffered by law enforcement agencies in B.C. as they are called upon to investigate their own for various alleged crimes and misconduct. Reviews have included that of Polish immigrant, Robert Dziekanski, who died shortly after being tazered by RCMP at Vancouver International Airport in October 2007.

Yes, they are. And yet they are still being used when possibly other means would be as effective.
