Accused of political correctness, Scotland Yard's Metropolitan Police (The Met) are seeking "special groups" to guard the Queen of England.

The Metropolitan Police has posted an advertisement inviting "special groups" to apply to protect the royal family at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and Balmoral.

The recruitment notice, posted internally within the Met, states: "Applications are particularly welcomed from women, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and black and minority ethnic communities/people as these are under-represented."

Critics have accused the Met of bowing to political correctness. Former Met commander John O'Connor said: "From a political correctness point of view, it's just window dressing.

"These are terrible jobs which no one wants to do. What could be more soul-destroying than to sit in a rusty old sentry box for hours on end?"

Philip Davies, Conservative MP for Shipley, West Yorkshire, said: "This is absolutely ludicrous. What's wrong with just employing the best for the job?"

There are about 30 vacancies in the royalty protection branch, known as SO14. Candidates must be trained in firearms and will be offered salaries between £28,605 and £41,208.

The problem is the government and what it wants the met police to do, the met police have to obey the recruitment requirement to suite the governments request. SO14 successful candidates have to be good the training is very rigid, at the end of the day only the best will be accepted. I expect many of the gay men will drop out and the lesbians will do well. Color etc will not be an issue.

I hate the political correct system that the lefties impose but in all fairness at the end of the day it will not matter much.

Babel-Fish, thank you for reading, commenting, and for the recommendation! However, are you sure the following is what you meant to say?:)

"I expect many of the gay men will drop out and the lesbians will do well. Color etc will not be an issue."

More on S014: responsible for guarding the Royal Family.

Yes because the training and fitness is very demanding the weakest will not be able to keep up. Not only very feminine gays will drop out but very feminine women also.  The queens task force have to be super fit, athletic as well as marksmen and good at police work. I expect many of those that do not make the grade will be invited to join the police force anyway.

What was said was not detrimental to gays or lesbians its to do with reality of the requirements for the job. I hope all that succeed in being candidates have a fair crack at the whip and I am sure that will be so.

I expect serving policemen and women will also be given a chance of joining the team, the job has to be offered to new recruits but there would be at a guess preference to experience of policing and at a guess also military experience. Normally this type of job would be advertised directly to military personnel that have completed a short military service.
