New Delhi: In what could be seen as a major political crisis in India. the Dravida Munnetra Kazagam, a major partner in the United Progressive Alliance ruling the country witdrew from the Alliance. It also broke its ties in Tamilnadu state in Sout India which would be going to polls shortly.  The Congress party which is heading the UPA government at the centre and the DMK which is the ruling ptrty in Tamilnadu held discussions for seat adjustments in the coming elections. But the discussions were unsuccessful and at the end of the confabulations, the DMK patriarch and Chief Minister decided to withdraw from the government. The DMK would give issue-based support to the Manmohan Singh government, of which it has been a part since 2004, the DMK said in a resolution adopted at the high level meeting. The chief minister had termed the Congress demand for 63 seats, after the DMK agreed to part with 60, and also insisting on the constituencies of its choice was unrealistic as well as unfair and saw in this a Congress unwillingness to continue with the alliance. Efforts are on to solve the crisis.
