For any idea to be implemented properly in reality, it has to be supported by an applicable concept, which has been appropriately characterized into a theory to give it the requisite support for practical purposes. This is true for political activities more than any other domain of conduct, as politics govern not only the state, which is the necessary means or machinery for it, but also the people, without which there can never be an existence of one. For this reason, there had been developed many concepts and theories according to which a state may or may not choose to conduct its affairs at both intra-state and inter-states levels. Such a step grants legitimacy and sense to what a state embarks upon for the benefit of governing masses and exercising an authority in the world affairs.

To conduct international relations with a right modus operandi befitting the monumental task of making efforts pertinent of a right political conduct involves decision-making and an exact foresight, if there ever could be one to depend upon. Hence, these very political concepts and political theories become the tools to instrumentalise the ideals into action. They shape the changes that occur in relation to a state with its subject and, the state itself as a subject of international system. These formulated concepts and theories assist in understanding and analysing the relations amongst the states and a state’s behavioural conduct as a unit of the international system, which augments the various phenomena of political import with constantly transforming dynamics. The many questions and problems that arise as results of the happenings since the time began are pursued for the satisfying answers with the help of these concepts and theories. Thus, the concepts and theories also give scope to comprehend the offshoots of every action and rationalising it.

There are certain traditions or norms followed by a discipline based upon the concepts and theories, principally a one like that of International Relations, with a whole gamut of political schools of thoughts covered under its umbrella, from the extreme right through the centre to the extreme left comprising of all the shades in the spectrum of political ideas and ideals. These very political theories and ideologies assist in making policies that shape the future for a nation and makes a society out of its intellectuals’ mind. The image on the ground though might not be a complete replica the idea that a thinker has in his or her mind, as it is easier to conceive than it is to concretise upon a thought. But with consistent regulations based on these very political notions turns out the whole structure and framework of a society and its functions.
