In June of 2002, while we were still living in Utah, I spent a weekend at an interpreters conference in Las Vegas. When I returned home late Monday afternoon, I discovered two new additions to our family, namely, cats named Marco and Polo, respectively. While I am not as crazy about them as are my wife and children, I like them okay, even though they were acquired without my advance knowledge or approval. And then there is the matter of their names; if I had been left to make the decision, their names would have been (a) Chairman Miao and Peking Tom, or (b) Tito and Franco. That Sheila was fully aware of this may explain why I was pre-empted in this instance.
This is Polo, and the picture was more or less an accident. I won't be posting a lot of pet pictures, and it is no secret that I am much more fond of our three birds than I am of the cats; but that being said, I kind of liked this shot. While waiting for some other pictures to upload to Flickr, I decided to learn about the bracketing feature on my new Nikon D50; and since Polo was only about 10 feet away, he made a convenient subject for a series of experimental pictures, all of which I thought I would immediately discard. But this one actually turned out well, and my wife and daughter both liked it. Hence, Polo the cat makes his appearance in my Flickr photostream.
This was taken with my 70-300mm lens on macro setting.
