VATICAN CITY (AFP) — Pope Benedict XVI is confident that the US government has done enough to protect him during his upcoming visit to the United States, the Vatican's number two said Sunday.

Security across the Nation is tight as Pope Benedict XVI is scheduled to arrive tomorrow afternoon aboard "Shepherd One" at Andrews Airforce Base, where he will be greeted by the President and First Lady Laura Bush.

A reception for the Pontiff will be held at the White House on Wednesday, April 16th. The Pontiff also turns 81 years of age on this date.

The Pope's 6-day visit also includes a visit to Ground Zero in New York City, and address to the United Nations General Assembly on Friday.

The Pontiff is also scheduled to celebrate Mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral, and at Yankee Stadium on April 20th, where over 150,000 people are expected to attend.  Access to the event however will be strictly controlled by several police agencies.

Update: 16 April 2008

Pope Benedict XVI arrived safely aboard "Shepherd One" yesterday at Andrews Air Force Base, where he was greeted by the President and First Lady Laura Bush, and daughter, Jenna Bush (cross-reference:  Pope Benedict XVI Arrived Aboard "Shepherd One").

Pope Benedict's visit to the United States is considered both historical and a "once in a lifetime event".  Because the Pope will visit both Washington, DC and New York City, I am flagging this story as more news wanted from relevant locations.  Thanks!

Rhonda J Mangus, I like this story. It's good stuff.  You know watching the News of the Pope and reporters trying to speak above the Singers, or the Pope speaking to the masses, while again, Reporters are babbling away, with Big Hair in what looks like a Stairway to Heaven, with their homemade heads popping in and out of frame so they can state the obvious seen in the background, makes one want to "Bitch Slap these Reporters" who when reporting, refuse to mute the background singers incessant caterwalling, or  get the hell out of the picture and Shut the hell up while the Pope is talking.  After all it is the POPE viewers wish to see, not Reporters trying to get their Faces constantly in View on what is a Historic event.  All in all I changed the channel to the National Geographic Channel, because with all the News Gushing between reporters with their nonsensical Babbling I cannot understand both.
