Do to others as you would have them do to you, and avoid doing what you would not want them to do. This “golden rule” is given in the Bible, but it is valid for all people, including non-believers. It is the law written on the human heart; on this we can all agree, so that when we come to address other matters we can do so in a positive and constructive manner for the entire human community.
Pope Benedict XVI is scheduled to be in Washington, DC April 15-17, and in New York City, April 18-20.
A video message, available in text, to all people of the United States has been released. Pope Benedict's message conveys thanks, and the themes chosen by him, together with Catholic Bishops for this journey, including the "golden rule".

Rhonda J Mangus, I like this story. How many other popes made the trip to the United States I wonder? I haven't heard of this happening before.

Thank you for the FLAG, Amy! Pope Paul VI visited the United States in 1965, and Pope John Paul II made at least five trips to the United States beginning as early as 1999.

Amy - I just uploaded photos of Pope Paul VI and Pope John Paul II, respectively to be followed by another photo of Pope Benedict, for reference.

Great! And thanks for getting back to me with an answer to my first question! I had no idea to be honest!

Amy - I incorrectly referenced the year 1999 as the earliest date of Pope John Paul II's visit to the United States. The Pontiff's first visit was actually in October 1979, when he was the first Pope to visit the White House and received by then President, Jimmy Carter.

Your welcome Rhonda, I saw the previous Pope in the late 80's or what it 90's in Ottawa, all I rememebr was it was quite the crowd.

I'm sure it was a grande crowd, Barry. In 1999, Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass in St. Louis in the Edward Dome Center. It is said to be the largest indoor gathering in United States history, with at least 104,000 people in attendance.
