The pope has singled out greed and selfishness and the two main causes for the world economic crisis, according to the BBC.

Speaking to a group of priests earlier this year he said he didnt want to give simplistic answers to complex questions, but does believe human greed and similar sins are behind it all.

The pope's understanding of the world economc problems were revealed when his third letter, Caritas in Veritate, or Love in Truth, was made public.

This Friday Pope Benedict XVI will have his first meeting with President Obama, an event that is likely to be highly focused on the world economy although no doubt the two world leaders will exchange views on a number of other concerning world issues.

Of course, the pope isn't the only one to believe greed and selfishness are the root causes behind the world economic problems. Greedy bankers and fat cats from Wall Street have been blamed for the problems ever since the crisis began and it is likely that most economists and publications will continue to blame them.

I think he does too, greed has got us to this point, Madoff and a few others are prime examples.

It doesn't help with advertising everywhere, encouraging greed.

Some people just cannot get enough money. For what, how many houses do people want? They just want to 'impress people at shallow parties'. Greed brings unwanted people to your doorstep, such as criminals trying to rob you, for a start. If there is nothing to rob, then they won't hang around. Then fatcats buy small planes on their Greed Money, and crash. Greed just catches up with these people in the end:-)

The Pope certainly has a point.
