Pope Says Gays as Dangerous as Climate Change
The internet is abuzz today after remarks from Pope Benedict XVI's speech yesterday, where he declared that saving humanity from homosexuality was just as important as saving the rainforest from destruction.
During the pontiff's speech at his end-of-year address to the Vatican's central administration, he said that behaviour beyond traditional straight sex was a 'destruction of God's work'.
“The tropical forests do deserve our protection. But man, as a creature, does not deserve any less," Benedict told scores of prelates gathered in the Vatican's Clementine Hall."What’s needed is something like a ‘human ecology,’ understood in the right sense. It’s not simply an outdated metaphysics if the Church speaks of the nature of the human person as man and woman, and asks that this order of creation be respected.”
Bavarian-born Pope Benedict XV1 has given us all something to talk about at Christmas with a ringing denunciation of homosexuals and transgender-ites, saying their perverted ways could signal “the self-destruction of humanity.”By this one presumes that he thinks we could all die out if these two preferences become yet more pronounced, but this seems a bit strong, even for someone who’s spent the latter part of his adult life in Italy.
He did not give specific dates for the visit but earlier media reports suggest he could travel to Jordan, Israel and the West Bank in mid-May.
Some writers have been following Pope Benedict XVI (or Joseph Ratzinger) since he first appeared on the papal radar, and note that he was head of the congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith - once known as the Holy Office of the Inquisition.
Never mind, for a moment, the inescapable - and hypocritical? - contradiction that underlies Ratzinger-Benedict's theological-doctrinal thinking, for even as he seems to be getting his robe in a knot over the very presence of homosexual people in the world (there are none in the Roman Catholic Church, of course), the Holy One also appears to be forgetting that the Christian Old Testament, that other weighty text from which his institution derives its policies, explicitly states that all human beings are the single god of Christianity's blessed creations.

So, this would be "no change you must believe in"?

Thank you very much for this story, Rob! I find it very unfortunate that false religious doctrine continues to be the largest threat against humanity.

Benedict the XVI does always surprise me with his statements.

Yeah may we spare all the gays from the catholic church. When are people going to realize that organized religion doesn't evolve or allow in new information or social values. It's so absurd people keep feeding into something that restricts them and others and allow it to dictate their choices and use it to indulge sadism. Meanwhile (no offense but) Catholics are busy overpopulating the world into destruction (another b.s. leftover from a time when they needed more hands to tend the farm).
I guess a disbelief in the theory of evolution can lead to a lack of ....evolution! When arehuman beings going to stop enslaving each other!
And literally the pure irony of it is the prevalent molestation by priests. pure hypocrisy. The catholic church is more dangerous than homosexuality could be.There are evolutionary purposes for homosexuality. Other cultures dealt with it better like native americans who thought the two spirit was more gifted in the realm of their opposite genders. And the gay folks, though not all want them, can care for children that would otherwise be without parents.
To all the gay folks out there as Allen Ginsberg said in Howl "I Am With You In Rockland...Where you are madder than I am."
Nice mix of sources and research here.

I wonder how we will be able to reproduce with more and more gay clubs on school campuses trying to convince young, impressionable children that they are "really" gay?
at 08:50 on December 23rd, 2008
Chuckle
I think one of the last thing we need to worry about is less reproduction on school campuses.
No matter what the doctrine, nature finds its way.
at 08:55 on December 23rd, 2008
The Catholic priests will take care of all the reproduction needed!
at 09:38 on December 23rd, 2008
yeah only if you call screwing little boys reproduction, right?
at 09:38 on December 23rd, 2008
Dude...Seriously...We're overpopulated as it is. The U.S. has over 300 million people in it. China...forget it. Reproduction is not in danger. And next thing you know you'll be raging against sex ed, too. There is no pleasing you conservatives who just want to be sadistic.
Yeah just screw in the dark and dont ask questions and don't be gay. Those are your guiding principles.
at 08:53 on December 23rd, 2008
Why you care so much about that? I will not be so wondered, nobody becomes gay, you maybe a gay and even not know that, but for sure you don’t just become gay just because they are in clubs, campuses or churches seating close to you. If you fear that, you may need to check why!

It's his club and he gets to make the rules. Until that changes, nothing will change. Trying logic and reason against such beliefs is about as effective, and makes about as much sense, as Log Cabin Republicans.

My guess is this guy is fighting gay desires so badly he can't imagine that everyone in the world wouldn't go gay if they could. Most people are, and will continue to be, heterosexual and interested in continuing procreation. Letting gays live happy lives and treating them with respect, decency, and friendship will not endanger the future of the human race (which is already overrunning the planet).

What a sad message to be sending the world. What pride to think to know what is 'God's work'.

Does he judge the homosexual animals (i.e. dogs, cats, birds, elephants, moose, horses, kangaroos, cows, aardvarks.....) in the same way??
I bet THEY don't know that God made them wrong.

The foundations of Christianity, of Buddhism, of all great Humanisms, are based on the knowledge of our imperfection - not promoting it, but not condemning it either - but trying to understand it. Therefore: If a human being has a deviation from the norm of Nature - Not of Patriarchy - that would fall under the defenition of an illness. Now, being ill is not a crime - but hmans are better of not being ill, and therefore, we tend to keep only that illness way from potential infection areas: especilly children!
But look at exactly the problems Pope Benedict was facing in the USA: homosexual childrape. And not only on the male side: Look at the celebrated "feminist liberation" play, the "Vagina Monologues", where a woman i her mid-twenties makes a girl of 13 drunk and pulls her into her bed - and the concuding words are: "If this was rape, it was a good rape."The big mistake in the homosexual creed is the making it into a "creed". Its basis is the denial of one's own sexuality as a complementary principle. It is, therefore, anti-sexual, and that is why it can only live with the term "gender" - a purely behavioural term without natural contents. That is also, so it seems, the root for the heterophobia or misheterism or hate against heterosexuality which has become so strong and, to some degree, dominant in the movement which is not any more a Women's Movement - not if the President of America’s and Betty Friedan’s NOW can declare that "a feminist is only a woman who is a declared lesbian".
Peace between all sexes and races and creeds, including the protection and understanding of minorities -like dislexics, epileptics, diabetics, homosexuals, hemophiliacs, et al. is not served by promoting the minority status or problem as the only correct one. If we did that, we would lead our species on the way of self-inflited extinction. Benedict did not condemn the being ill as a sin, only the spreading of it. Let us be clear and honest: an illness, whether genetic or traumatic is a suffering, not a sin or crime. Tolerance means to see that - and accept it. But it does not mean spreading it or supporting its spreading. The danger with the rinforests is also a big one. In both points, Benedict has humankind's good and rescue in mind - just as the tomorrow's birthday-child from Palestine. Speaking the truth often makes speakers of goodness and tolerance targets of hate. Let usnot forget: Sex is not an invention (except god's) - Gender, however, is only a construct of some psycho-quacks in the 60ies: a half-truth. And itis the half-, and quarter-, and sixteenth- truths that are dangerous.

Growing up Gay During
Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals 1933-1945
What would be the severity of the psychological effects caused to a boy who grew up to be gay living in Germany during the time of Hitler’s Nazi regime? We know the severe psychological harm and for many, the physical abuse caused to children who grow up to be gay under the influence of harsh antigay social and religious norms. This type of pervasive harm is portrayed in the characters of the movie “Brokeback Mountain,” Jack and Ennis, and including the accepted social approval to commit and remain silent about the severity of this kind of inhuman treatment taken against other human beings, just because they are homosexuals.
During the Nazi regime, homosexuals were publically defamed, falsely accused for the major social problems of that time. This was done purposely, to incite massive public hatred and hostility to be taken against homosexuals. The Nazis publically charged homosexuals, as being a threat to the nation, blamed for the nation declining birth rate, and called an infection that if not eradicated could become an epidemic especially to the youth. Homosexuals were used for medical experiments, brutally tortured, physically mutilated, and exterminated in Nazi Death camps. These atrocities have devastating psychological effects not only for the children who grew up to be gay, but also for all of society.
Would this child, as an adult, in a severe dissociative state of mind from his own homosexual feelings (Harry Stack Sullivan MD), unconsciously, perpetuate the terrifying horror of the insensitivity he had experienced, growing to be gay? If he found himself in a position of authority would he recreate the same social and political environment of violence and terror for homosexuals that he experienced, as a child who grew up be to gay, during the Nazi Persecution of Homosexuals?
