India is facing serious power crisis. The futuristic plans announced to augment its power generation capacity, will only suffice the needs for a short while . What we need is projects that are innovative and make the best use of the resources we have . The move implemented by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) sure fits the bill. KMC can generate 20 mw of electricity out of 4,000 tonne of waste it dumps at Dhapa daily. That is enough to light 16,000 middle income homes in summer.
