Preparing for impact

Pike Energy Company is one of many that are sending power specialists into the storm’s path, getting ready for the inevitable repair.

The only way that we consumers can be assured that the power will come back on not long after it has been knocked out is by the preplanning and dispatch of power technicians into the disaster area. They drive in convoys with the precision and discipline resembling an army. Trucks are equipped with different equipment needed to repair power lines and distribution equipment.

I saw them yesterday by the hundreds as they approached the DC Metro area. I think they take up tempoary residence in the periphery before moving in for repair duty.
