"Pregnancy Pact" Principal Steps Down

The principal at Gloucester High, home of the so-called "Pregnancy Pact", has resigned his post following the local- and media frency surrounding the skyrocketing pregnancy rate at his school.

Gloucester High School principal Joseph Sullivan said Tuesday he doesn't have the trust, confidence or respect of the mayor and superintendent.

Time magazine quoted Sullivan in June as saying some Gloucester girls had formed a ''pregnancy pact.'' He later said he didn't recall using the word ''pact,'' but he still thought some of the pregnancies were intentional.

The phrase "pregnancy pact" became an instant news meme, and this story spread like wildfire partly due to the easily-accessible imagery in those two words. The story was already hot when I read about it; by the time I had Highlighted the story linked in the intro above, the term had appeared several more times, and that was only over the course of ten minutes or so. In the face of that, what principal would stand a chance of keeping his/her job? The jury-box in the court of public opinion was packed beyond capacity within hours.

Indeed, people have vlogged the heck out of this story, so I added a few examples, eschewing the entries which began with 5-min intros of what the vlogger had for breakfast.

Unless the principal is like Ed Rooney in Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and following his kids around off-campus, I'm not too sure what he could have done about this. Again, there is no real confirmation that the pact even exists.

Thanks for the flag.
