William Morris Williams, a former doctor, has pled guilty to illegally dispensing promethazine/codeine syrup, a prescription-strength cough syrup used to make purple drank, from Total Health Services, the clinic he ran in southern Georga.

William Morris Williams had to give up his medical license after admitting that his clinic was a "pill mill". Williams was prescribing drugs to patients who would turn around and sell them in the clinic parking lot.

Williams is free on $25,000 bail until sentencing: in pleading guilty to a misdemeanor, he faces up to 2 years in prison and $200,000 in fines. He is 71 years old, and may get a reduced sentence in return for the guilty plea.

Williams, who surrendered his medical license last month, also admitted to U.S. Magistrate James Graham that a U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration investigation was correct in finding that his office and family practice clinic was essentially a "pill mill."
