NP Rank:
President Arroyo wishes Pinoys peace, prosperity
Most of us young and old have a New Years wish...And New Years eve has always been a time for looking back to the past, and more importantly, forward to the coming year.
As the nation joins the rest of the world in the celebration of New Year’s Eve and the start of a new year tonight, Filipino families will observe age-old traditions that seek to invite prosperity, good health, and good fortune in 2009. Fireworks displays and firecracker explosions will greet the arrival of the New Year 2009, with hope that it will bring economic recovery after the financial crisis that beset most of the globe in recent months.
As the clock strikes 12 midnight, in many homes tonight, children will be made to jump in the belief that this will help them grow taller. Circular fruits will form part of the center piece on dining tables. Many will be wearing polka dots or anything that has circles on it, some will throw coins or shake coins inside a metal casserole while walking around in the house, lights will be opened, many will serve and eat round fruits, coins will be placed on staircases, windows and doors where coins have also been placed will be flung open – all in the spirit of attracting good fortune and blessings.

President Gloria Arroyo said she was praying for peace, progress and prosperity for the nation in 2009, as her predecessor urged people to welcome the New Year with enthusiasm and hope.
Many leaders have the economy in mind these days, as the government earlier said that the country was facing economic slowdown, not recession this year.
In her New Year’s message released Wednesday, President Arroyo also renewed her call for unity, so that the country, she said, could join the global community in weathering the international financial meltdown.
“For 2009, first and foremost, I wish for peace, progress and prosperity for the people of the nation,” added the President, who is spending the New Year with her family at the Mansion House in Baguio City.
The Arroyo administration said it would make a priority massive spending on infrastructure in 2009 to stimulate the economy, pursue the peace process with both communist and separatist rebels and improve national security.
The President assured the nation that the global recession has not reached crisis proportions in the country.
“Here at home, I hope that the efforts we are making to eliminate poverty and to improve the lives of our people will continue to bear fruit and that these efforts will pave the way for the creation of a more prosperous Philippines. Happy New Year to all,” Mrs. Arroyo said.
I hope that this is the time to remembered 'Freedom and Equality'.

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

The age of warrior kings and of warrior presidents has passed. The nuclear age calls for a different kind of leadership....a leadership of intellect, judgment, tolerance and rationality, a leadership committed to human values, to world peace, and to the improvement of the human condition. The attributes upon which we must draw are the human attributes of compassion and common sense, of intellect and creative imagination, and of empathy and understanding between cultures." - William Fulbright

President Gloria Arroyo's main goal this 2009 should be concentrated to the core Problems of the Philippines not just on a short-term aid basis, specially that her term of office is near to expire..

by 2010 The first electronic voting of the National Election might give the answer on who's really in the position to lead the Nation. Hopefully most fraud leaders will be eradicated with the new system of voting.

with the presence of global financial crisis. Austerity measures should Pres. Arroyo prioritize. A lot of funding is spent in government useless projects that the people don't even feel its benefits.
