President Bush Lights Christmas Tree in Washington for the Last Time
President George Bush led the countdown and lighting of the National Christmas Tree earlier this evening in Washington DC. This has been an American tradition that dates back more than 80 years in the capital as the 42' evergreen tree is draped in lights. As the crowds gathered for the event and Christmas music filled the air, Bush spoke of the long history of the lighting of the National Tree.
"Today we celebrate the 85th anniversary of the National Christmas Tree lighting," said President Bush. "In times of calm and times of challenges Americans have gathered for this ceremony."
After a little song sung by Santa, Bush announced that he would be moving back to Texas following his handover of power in January. The tree starts off the holiday season in Washington and will be lit from dusk till 11pm every night until January 1st.

The DC Christmas tree is selected from the entire country and is the most magniicent specimen they can find. They will buy it from the owner of the land. I know someone who refused to sell and still has that tree and it is awesome!
