President Bush with Queen Elizabeth who has known him from when he was a small boy
President Bush arrived in the UK on Sunday in what is seen in Europe as the presidential farewell tour.
The President and his wife, Laura Bush, joined Queen Elizabeth at Windsor Castle for afternoon tea. They then traveled to London for dinner in Downing Street with Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah.
Protesters at Windsor and London
A protest march failed to greet the President because of street closures by London police. Whitehall, a road that links Parliament Square with Trafalgar Square, was completely closed off. Over one thousand police protected the entrance to Downing Street.
The march was organized, jointly, by the Stop the War Coalition, the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament and the British Muslim Initiative. However the crowd was not much bigger than the police presence, being around 2,500 people. There have been 25 arrests so far.
Formal talks are to begin on Monday and it is believed the President will urge the British Prime Minister not to commit to a British troop withdrawal timetable from Iraq. Discussions are also thought to encompass Iran and their nuclear ambitions.

Yes London was a huge traffic jamb in the most glorious sunshine, diversions, incidents, road closures which all added to the worst Sunday traffic chaos that I can remember. Glad to be out of the City after wasting 3 hours breathing the fumes.
